What makes it different are the delivery method - the transdermal patch.
I have heard some pretty good thing about the Mylan brand Fentanyl patch though. Supposedly it doesn't have a cell with all the fentanyl liquid in it.
Monitor patients with a history of seizure disorders for worsened seizure control during therapy with Fentanyl Transdermal System. Avoid the use of mixed agonist/antagonist (e.g., pentazocine, nalbuphine, and butorphanol) or partial agonist (e.g., buprenorphine) analgesics in patients who are receiving a full opioid agonist analgesic, including Fentanyl Transdermal System.

December 30, 2014. †Nominal delivery rate is 12.5 mcg/hr. ‡Bioequivalent (AB-rated) alternative to Duragesic ® (Janssen). §The Sandoz Fentanyl Transdermal System is an authorized generic.
I represented Duragesic for years (introduced by Janssen Pharmaceutica in1990). I have now worn Duragesic patches for more than 10 years. The generic offerings for fentanyl transdermal differ substantially from one another. First, the Sandoz generic fentanyl patch is apparently mfg'd within same facility as Duragesic brand, and like Duragesic, each 25mcg/hr multiple contains 4.2mg of fentanyl-permeated-adhesive that covers 10.5cm2 of surface skin area. Watson Laboratories' (Actavis - new company name) fentanyl patches appear to be based on Janssen's original Duragesic formulation as each 25mcg/hr multiple contains 2.5mg of fentanyl gel in a reservoired patch which covers 10cm2 surface skin area.
Risks From Concomitant Use With Benzodiazepines Or Other CNS Depressants Concomitant use of opioids with benzodiazepines or other central nervous system (CNS) depressants, including alcohol, may result in profound sedation, respiratory depression, coma, and death [see Warnings and Precautions (5.7), Drug Interactions (7)]. • Reserve concomitant prescribing of Fentanyl Transdermal System and benzodiazepines or other CNS depressants for use in patients for whom alternative treatment options are inadequate. • Limit treatment to the minimum effective dosages and durations. • Follow patients for signs and symptoms of respiratory depression and sedation. Fentanyl Transdermal System is contraindicated in: • patients who are not opioid-tolerant • the management of acute or intermittent pain, or in patients who require opioid analgesia for a short period of time. • the management of post-operative pain, including use after out-patient or day surgeries.
Your lucky, The Gels taste very bad. But the drug dont leave the gel if you let it dry. (I had a gel ones also, and squeezed a bit out and did then the same. But letting it sit and dry still worked. ) We had a janitor at the hospital that was removing patches on patients, This guy was taking them from the trash at first.
I just know that the name-brand patches (Duragesic) actually have a thick gel in them, and you can eat this gel. I have heard mixed reviews, but mostly negative, on the gel-less patches.the company even stated that they made the gel-matrix a certain way, so even if someone tried to abuse it by taking it by chewing/sucking on it, it wouldn't release any faster then just slapping the patch on. I personally didn't feel anything from it, and my gf who barely does opiates took 3/4 of a 75mcg patch in her mouth and felt absolutely nothing. Fucking drug made me superman. I see you had a solid patch. Your lucky, The Gels taste very bad. But the drug dont leave the gel if you let it dry.
Ignore the gauze, the sticking power of the Tegaderm is phenomenal. I have had bad luck with the Parr patches. Something with the adhesive makes my skin break out. I tested to see whether it may have been an errant lot, but about 4 months after I experienced the first skin rash, I tried it again (Parr brand). I am going to miss the Mallinckrodt lack of reaction patches, but I need to wean off Fentanyl. I cannot stand how it makes me feel, and my insurance company is allowing only 10 patches per 25 days. WTH are you supposed to do with sometimes a week to go before you fill the script for the next month?
If the decision is made to prescribe a benzodiazepine or other CNS depressant concomitantly with an opioid analgesic, prescribe the lowest effective dosages and minimum durations of concomitant use to meet treatment goals. Advise patients and caregivers about the risks of respiratory depression and sedation when used in combination with benzodiazepines or other CNS depressants. Advise patients not to drive or operate heavy machinery until the effects of concomitant use of the benzodiazepine or other CNS depressant have been determined. Serum fentanyl concentrations could theoretically increase by approximately one-third for patients with a body temperature of 40°C (104°F). In the event of a fever, closely monitor patients for sedation and respiratory depression and reduce the Fentanyl Transdermal System dose, if necessary. Warn patients to avoid strenuous exertion that leads to increased core body temperature while wearing Fentanyl Transdermal System to avoid the risk of potential overdose and death. Patients with significant chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or cor pulmonale, and those with a substantially decreased respiratory reserve, hypoxia, hypercapnia, or pre-existing respiratory depression are at increased risk of decreased respiratory drive including apnea, even at recommended dosages of Fentanyl Transdermal System.

I just abbreviated a technique for injecting in order to make a smoke-able base. Simply, soak patch in highest proof iso I can get (30 min to 1 hour). I cant say for sure then about the release time, but i definitely get a buzz off these decently quick, and long lasting. But that is weird man, if i took 3/4 of a 75mcg patch, i would probably puke! And i have a pretty high tolerance to opiates. After past 2 months, was taking me around 80-120mg's of oxy, at once to get a mild daze. Maybe something went wrong with the patch you had, heat problem, or something. Cuz i have a nickel size peice in my mouth right now, and im feeling great packet says 'store at 68*F to 77*F' and its not necessarily a great substitute, but its keeping my mind off oxy right now;p. Dude be careful on that stuff.
